Reforms to Housing Counseling and Financial Literacy Programs
Allows HUD to review the performance of housing counseling agencies and counselors, require additional training where performance falls short, and apply enhanced oversight or loss of certification for repeated noncompliance.
This reinforces that counseling and financial literacy are becoming part of the official homeownership infrastructure, not a side activity. For us, it has the potential to create an opening to build consumer education into Beyond Home and Neighborhood Intelligence. We should not just tell homeowners what a product costs; we should help them understand what owning, financing, maintaining, and improving a home really means.
Create a Beyond Home Learning Center connected to our Home Value Guide, mortgage partners, renovation partners, and ownership lifecycle tools. Management should explore partnerships with certified counseling organizations and build content around affordability, equity, maintenance reserves, renovation ROI, and household budgeting.
